Perhaps it’s old age or the tendency to look back through rose colored glasses but I saw few familiarities in Licorice Pizza except for the cars and clothes. Being a teenager during those times was incredible because of new found freedoms from previous social norms. And LP tries to flex those possibilities in the movie with Gary and Alana but each time they try to make something work like acting, waterbed sales, or political support they seem to run away before any sensible conclusion. Like the gas shortage during those day LP makes you sit through a long line only to find out there is no gas.
