The amount of unnecessary violence and blood in this series verges on gore and became totally unacceptable for me. I went from being invested in the story to switching it right off due to a scene where Lisey's face was beaten until unrecognisable - and just minutes later, slashed cruelly and repeatedly. You'd hope in these enlightened times filmmakers would stop to think before immortalising yet another scene of violence against women, but for some reason it's still deemed 'important' to show. My partner watching with me added that it felt like lazy storytelling and I'm inclined to agree. Don't support this. Watch something else instead. There's a lot of interesting psychological horror out there that doesn't resort to shock value for ratings.
