I was excited to see what Jonah Hill and Eddie Murphy could do together since I have enjoyed previous movies that they have done. What an utter disappointment! There is simply nothing humorous or redeeming about this movie. The script is littered with predictable racial cliches, tropes, and diatribes. The acting and dialogue makes you wonder how any of the actors are considered stars. I got as far as the dinner scene where Jonah Hill and Eddie Murphy first meet and had to turn it off. The total lack of chemistry and total lack of comedy between the two had convinced me I'd already wasted enough of my time on this "comedy" that relies solely on cringe humor and racist stereotypes in its attempts to be funny. I should have turned it off in the previous scene when Jonah Hill's character talks about claiming the insignificant engagement ring he bought was his grandmother's holocaust ring so his fiance wouldn't know he was just being cheap. I'm not sure who would find that funny, but to each their own. I did draw the line at Jonah Hill's character trying to make a connection with Eddie Murphy's character by saying Jesus Christ was a half-black and half-Jewish "legend" with mixed race children. At that point I knew this movie was not about making people laugh as much as it was about making people angry and just turned it off. I'd strongly recommend finding some other way of spending two hours of your time on anything other than watching this garbage.
