It started of good but went down hill once they travelled in to the future. The series ignored most of what was set in the existing Star Trek series. An example is that the Romulan used artificial singularity in the TNG/DS9 era in their war birds, in discovery they, and the entire federation, give up space travel because of a Dilithium shortage.
