I tend not to post comments on anything but really feel I need to say something about this film. I went along with family hoping that this really was going to live up to the hype and reviews.
What a disappointment. This film really is an over rated load of nonsense. It's difficult knowing where to begin. Here's just a few of my thoughts on some of the more ludicrous events in the film.
One of the two messenger soldiers has a wounded limb he happens to push into the abdomen of a rotting corpse with no ill-effects for the rest of the film; the collapsing tunnel scene should have killed certainly one (with the wound!) if not both soldiers but they continue on; they amble across fields watching aerial combat and then outrun a German plane flying into the barn they're standing in; the pilot of the plane who is seriously wounded then manages to stab and kill one of the messengers; whilst all this is happening healthy cows are grazing happily around; a truck of British soldiers appears from nowhere to offer the remaining messenger a lift; when dropped by a bridge the messenger then manages to avoid bullets coming from very dodgy trajectories; his subsequent head injury (having encountered the sniper) would not have allowed him to get up and 'soldier' on; how on earth was a French woman and crying baby living in the ruins unbeknownst to the Germans they were surrounded by (she also had very good English); the messenger could never have avoided the German soldiers firing on him, especially when always running in a straight line; the river scene was ridiculous, especially the steep waterfall (it's Northern France!) and changing landscape; why would you climb out over rotting corpses when you could swim to the 'clean' bank and meadow on the other side of the river; how convenient that when he leaves the river he happens to come across the regiment he's seeking; after rushing through trenches with battle commencing, the messenger then ends up in the field hospital, the sun is out and all is fine (kind of).......
Really? What would our WW1 veterans make of this.
