Well directed, good acting and a sound story. Assante terrific as always, a very young Banderas before he grew up and learned English. Cathy Moriarity in a decent part. Plus you get to see and hear Celia Cruz and Tito Puente. You can't ask for better, in contrast to so many rote films today.

To post i had to assign a star, but it deserves none. I rarely say a movie is a piece of, but this one takes the cake! Aside from the obscure script and uneven pacing, the dialogue is often drivel and most of the characters you wouldn't throw up. Both the art director and cinematographer must have left after the first take. It drags on forever leaving you to wonder who is the real villain, until you knew it all along---the director and co-writer. How this turkey got financed had to be by the gullible stars who bought into this thing to begin with. The viewer is forced downward through virtual layers of Hell, like Dante's Inferno, only to find themselves ending in endless purgatory, which is probably a relief from the rest of this drivel. Don't even start watching it!
