Love is emotional and behavioural matrix of human mind. Interpretation of love is always remains personal vanity; hence it depends, whether one calls it forbidden love or Love it varies lens to lens. Amongst the principles that I live by, the main is liberation for all beings. Although I had seen several documentaries and a lot of cinema on the subject of homosexuality, I wasn’t particularly moved by any of them. In an attempt to expand my horizon of knowledge into the domain of LGBT literature and feel the story from within, I came across a book called The Carpet Weaver by Nemat Sadat. As soon as I read that the book was set in Afghanistan, I couldn’t stop myself from reading it. Although they are reasonably well-off, Kanishka’s family does not know the affluence that his friends can afford. So, while he went to the posh school in the day, life after school is spent at his Baba’s shop Marco Polo Rugs — a place where he nurtures his love for art and craft, and his admiration for his father.
