Not a patch on the original. All the actors gave fine performances. Yet, the story is just a bit too fragmented and somewhat overtwisted.
To be fair, a sincere, honest effort is visible. The props are realistic: the model township to summon Beetlegeuse, sandworm from the original etc. However, the several things that the makers have tried to put together, just don't add up. This movie seems desperate. It is trying to do too many things:
pay tribute to the original, cash on Wednesday's popularity, bring some novelty to Keaton's character by showing him as hunted, make some use for Catherine's character since she is there etc. etc. . They tried to stitch up everything in the end, but it's already too late by then. I took a nap a few times. Oh, btw, whose idea was it to put an overdose of tongue-in-cheek humor ?
