Alien was one of the first movies I remember seeing, my parents put it on at home on VHS when I was about 7! Point is, i’m a long time fan of the Alien franchise. I had high hopes for Alien Romulus, I loved the Evil Dead remake and thought this would be equally as good.
It starts off really promising, visually very impressive, lots of mood and tension. Stays that way until Navarro gets a face hugger and they ‘reactive’ a familiar looking damaged robot for answers. The CGI here is baaaaad, really really BAD and completely unnecessary. You will see this CGI and know exactly what im talking about.
It made more sense for David to be on that space station - he mastered the black goo and ‘created’ the alien. I don't get why you would hark back to the original Alien with the ‘Ash’ brand of robot, specially with such ropey CGI. Would have been better to go with an unknown actor and no CGI at all.
The story from this point just goes downhill and the film has some seriously cringey moments. They rinse Alien and Aliens for all its worth, way over the top fan service and pointless dialog quotes. Next level cheese and some bad acting in places.
The ending was just a rehash of Alien Resurrection, but more gross. I had hoped that Prometheus goo injection would start a transformation of the actress into a basic Alien Queen… but no. Just another human/alien baby hybrid, it was quite creepy mind.
This movie could have been something really special, I thought Prometheus and Covenant failed but they are like masterpieces in comparison. Such a shame. I don't understand all the 5 star reviews, no where near 5 stars imo.
