Achilles’ lover is not Breseis, it’s Patroclus, and the disregard and disrespect for this fact is blatantly homophobic. The movie goes out of its way to shove it in your face that Patroclus is Achilles’ “cousin” which undermines Achilles’ grief induced killing spree caused by the death of his lover, Patroclus. I’m not sure if Brad Pitt was uncomfortable with playing a gay character or you all were just trying to please homophobes by making this more historically inaccurate than it already is, but it doesn’t even make sense in the plot. One more thing, not in malice, but I see many reviews saying Achilles and Patroclus are bisexual- they aren’t, they’re gay, as the only sexual encounters they have with women are r*pe (Princess Deidameia r*ped Patroclus) or manipulation (again, Achilles’ unwanted affair with Deidameia that occurred only because Thetis promised she would let Patroclus know where he was if he laid with her (she did not). While Breseis is an important part of the story, she was neither of their lovers- she suggested having children with Patroclus, and though he considered, it was only for the children, and he told her he did not long for a wife, even if Achilles was still his true lover.
