good movie…. Bullock is a great actress and pretty hot in this…. but i have to say, Dennis Miller makes me cringe every second he’s on screen, his wise- cracking smirky character almost ruins the movie…. how the he** did he get this role?

i’m a self admitted Halle Berry fan boy, so i’m a bit biased. Within 5 minutes of this movie, i can feel it’s my kind of movie. the tone, the color pallet, Halle’s enthusiasm, which i feel she brings to every role she takes on, all line up for me. Even at this age of 41,( 2007) i’m mystified at this woman’s beauty. I also always feel that the other actors are often checking her out, for real.. while filming. You catch Ribisi, Willis, and the women eying her. it’s basically every movie she’s in . Yes this movie has some bad lines, i don’t feel there are any plot holes tho, id rather it be 1:49:00 and move fast, than be 2:20:00 and have it drag out and explain everything ad nauseam. They sum up everything nicely in the last 10 min of the movie. No need me explaining the whole movie, as other reviewers have done that. If u like Ribisi, like Bruce Willis, or love Halle, it’s a high point for her and complete no brainer. just get your pop corn and watch it…. if u need a perfect film, perfectly acted, well watch this, then go watch Citizen Kane, again.

i liked it a lot, admittedly i’m a big HB fan, but she always seems to go the extra mile in her training and prep. many examples- this movie, John Wick, Dorothy Dandridge. The movie’s plot is reviewed 100 times here… so i’m just going to say if you’re a fan of HB and are familiar with her work ethic and her commitment to her roles… such as Frankie and Alice , or even Monster’s…. you will likely enjoy this movie… And i like the fact she’s not afraid to look busted up ( Bruised, dare i say) she doesn’t go all glam… but some how, some times, i see her as she looked 23 years ago in her ( imo) Prime…. it’s incredible actually. It borrows a bit from the original Rocky, add in an obligatory queer character, and the abusive jerk boyfriend and u have a tried a true formula. It’s on Netflix so the price is right….

amazing cast, sad but uplifting …. Benito del toro is incredible, Halle is not only smoking, as always, but delivers one of her best performances….

From the perspective of a huge Halle Berry fan..this movie is highly rewatchable, just don’t take it so seriously…. it has some flaws and some plot holes in it…. but i’m not reviewing Citizen Kane here. This is a very brief synopsis, with *spoiler. Halle Berry plays a respected psychiatrist for the criminally insane that works in a prison / psych ward. She becomes possessed by a murdered girl/ aborition, looking to seek justice thru her….or at least bring her murderers to light…..that is to say, through HB’s character, Miranda. Some great photography, a couple of scares, and an amazing cast - Penelope Cruz, a very young looking Robert Downy Jr, ( who broke Halle Berry’s arm while filming — apparently with very little remorse..?) Charles Dutton, Bernard Hill…, who are all excellent. The chemistry between HB and RDJ is something i would have liked to see further explored, here, and possibly in other movies. I really like the brooding, dark, bluish color pallet of the movie, it’s always raining and there’s lighting, and when the aborition makes an appearance, the electricity goes haywire. Bottom line- the good guys aren’t what they seem to be and Miranda, from her jail cell, escapes to solve the mystery and expose everyone for the deviates that they are, inspite of no one believing her wild story of “seeing” the “dead girl”. It’s a fun ride, as a big HB fan, who feels she really got short changed by being offered weak movies and roles ..and is often harshly reviewed, but ALWAYS gives 100 percent! The director finds a way… through numerous scenes… to get her entire body in this movie, even if in brief snippets, just enough to keep you watching. As HB is already an Oscar winner here, and is coming off being a Bond girl, i’m conflicted... as i wish she got offered more top flight roles in better movies but at the same time, i love seeing her exploited for her unparalleled beauty which is on full display here. I guess it did pay off cause her next movie was the underrated Catwoman ( good payday for HB, and if they would just edit 3 scenes down a bit, and DELETE 3 scenes, the movie is much better ) Back to Gothika, It’s about 90 mins and it goes by in a blink. Watch the movie, then watch it with the director commentary the next night, if u have the dvd. Also on the dvd is an interesting music video of Limp Bizqit doing a cover of The Who’s “Behind Blue Eyes” i’m still hurting from watching Fred Durst making out with HB… while he somehow switches from inmate to Dr.,then leaving the HB character to rot in the cell. So if u want to break out the popcorn and catch a fun flick, watch it. If u want to see Citizen Kane or Casablanca…. then watch those movies another time.

it’s about a senator, played by Beatty. after putting a hit… on himself… for his daughter to collect insurance money, he starts rapping to get his now liberal and extremely transparent views across. He goes against all his conservative views, much to his handlers’ chagrin… and exposes large companies, even his donors, as fraudulent. He meets up with Nina ( Berry) , who looks very young and super hot, ( but may or may not have a hidden agenda) and has her tag along with him, on his new journey of rapping his speeches. With a new lease on life, he has a change of heart about the hit he put on himself…. and “chaos ensues”….. can he stop the hit? who is actually carrying out the hit? It’s worth the watch.. Good performances by all…. Don Cheadle and Oliver platt round out a solid cast.
