I made a review that was perhaps oversimplified and in light of how the tone is going in other reviews I wanted to shed more light:
Let me first say, I am biased when it comes to Star Wars. The original trilogy was watched weekly growing up and I read every Star Wars book I could get my hands on (here's to you library's!) When things were hard growing up, I looked to the stars and imagined a galaxy far far away.
I have an emotional connection to Star Wars that makes me find the best in all the content. I'm just excited to be back in that World when I'm watching.
The exception is this show. I'm three episodes in now and I just can't. The whole fire in space is whatever. I mean, if you are watching Star Wars through a Neal Degrasse Tyson-esque lense you are going to have a bad time. It's not that. It's just how poorly written the dialogue is and how bad the acting comes across. I heard someone say it feels like a show on the CW which is a perfect example.
Now, episode 3 is where I am and where the wheels come off for me. They have forgone utilizing a huge amount of well written lore that exists to bring an original story and what you focus on is a coven of lesbian force witches. I am annoyed mainly because the way it is presented and harped on solely to try and make Star Wars, one of the last bastions of the non-political into a poorly written manifesto. Here's the thing, in Star Wars I have seen: a bunch of planet killing machines the size of moons, a tiny green alien in Yoda wielding the force to pull ships out of swamps, rebellions overcoming incredible odds to find victory, and countless other amazing feats. You think that these witches are blowing my mind or something? There is a dude named Dr. Mandible
that looks like a giant ant and plays cards in the Mandalorian. You arent shocking anyone. Look around at the marvel of this diverse universe and explain to me why this story matters at all. You could have explained in 10 minutes, what took you a whole episode to poorly convey.
