“Unnecessary need to include over emotional factor | completely ignoring the reality and science | Glorifying Narcissism in the name of pride”
Everyone is talking about the vfx and “gravity” style and how it meets it or not. But that’s not the problem, the real problem is with the style of directing and screenplay.
Spoilers ahead:
If the movie had just followed how things really work, it would have been a much better movie.
In the movie, there’s only one guy who claims that the first satellite is his. Not only that’s possible but it’s somewhat narcissistic as he completely ignores everyone else who has worked on the project. This will be the theme through the movie. Arrogance (not pride) and Narcissism. Even during the scenes where he is about to go to space, it’s been 5 years since he’s had the training, but they still go ahead even though they know that he might be a tremendous risk to the rest of the crew members due to his narcissism.
One important thing, he says there’s no room for failure while talking to a bunch of kids, that is absolutely not true and completely wrong. People learn by failing in their “missions”, if you look for perfection without accounting for failure, you might succeed but you will learn the least.
Over it’s a good concept, but ruined by the need to include an “over emotional” factor to it. If they had just followed reality and some actual science it could’ve been a great movie.
