Apparently this flick is a hard sell to those who have read the book. As with most movie adaptations, they often fall flat due to ppls expectations of them to be an exact representation of the novel they fell in love with prior. That being said, for me personally, I didn’t have any preconceived expectations since I am not a book reader, and found the movie to be enjoyable and worth the $7 rental fee. IT ENDS WITH US is a softened version of a very serious epidemic faced by many, and in an effort to be sensitive to its viewers, it took a “read between the lines” approach. Many 1 star reviews seem to be under the mistaken assumption that the abuse was not real, but rather just a series of unfortunate events & a lead character just insistent on being a victim. Often, this can be the same lenses that many abuse victims see their own personal situations through as well, so the ones who need to understand this and can relate will appreciate how this film was tactfully produced. We eventually get to see a few seconds closer to the end how the intent to cause harm was in fact real and how the manipulations of the abuser can skew things in their favor, even their victim’s perception. The only thing that got in the way of me giving this flick 5 stars was Blake’s wardrobe that she personally picked out for herself. It wasn’t funk. It wasn’t cool. It was like little field mouse moves to the big city and I didn’t get that at all and it was quite distracting and off putting.
