This is a memorable film . The night time sequences were inspired by a polish woman called Aleksandra Bystron-Kolodziejczyk. She is important because as a young girl of 13, she left food for the starving prisoners. She found the piece of music written by an Auschwitz prisoner which she played on the piano. She showed bravery and humanity amongst the appalling banality and evil. Jonathan Glazier met her when she was 90.
