first I’ll say the things that made me give this a three stars (the good things)
1. I love the storyline, it’s such a fun storyline! The whole (SPOILERS!) Georgia as a moving mother across the country due to the fact that she killed her lovers in the past is so cool
2. I love Georgia as a character, she’s such a open, fun, loving mother who (you can tell) really loves her daughter,
3. The concepts covered in the story, I loved how they showed about Abby’s problems and didn’t just reduce it to her ‘losing weight’ to fix her problems or anything else like that
Ok.. now onto why this lost 2 stars.
1. Ginny. Ginny’s character is such a obnoxious person in total, she never seems to be grateful for the things that Georgia provides her with and just reduces it down to “yoU don’t understand me!!!!” I get that she wants to fit in with her friend (like any teen does) but the way she develops into such a mean person really took away from her character (EX when she first joined MANG and Samantha helped comfort her but then she disregards Sam later. Also, the way she takes Hunters advice. I completely agree with hunter, the assignment asked for a essay, not a poem (it was an amazing poem I’m not hating on her poem) but then, when hunter starts explaining why she didn’t win, her immediate response was to say “oh no you won because you’re more white then I’ll ever be1!1!1!” And the way she says “Asians get to be stereotyped as talented geniuses and prodigies” As a 15 year old wasian (Asian passing) that is so untrue, as a wasian woman, especially because I am *quite asian passing we get Stereotyped as “submissive” and “perfect wives” I have had to experience these stereotypes all my life because I’m half Chinese, same goes for quite* asian passing wasian men, they still have to face the same racism that you get when ur asian,(although not as intense, I’m not saying that wasian people experience the same racism that asians do) Ginny was completely wrong for that. Ginny completely disregards what it means to have to face those standards in asian culture and essentially is saying “ur only HALF asian, I go through so much more hardships and pain because I’ll never be as white as you” although I agree that she’s somewhat right, she never should’ve brought up that “you’re the one who’s half Chinese yet I know more mandarin than you!” We are always stuck between both sides of our races, we don’t get to grow up with full immersion in either the white or Asian part of our culture (not an excuse, hunter could’ve learnt it on his own) but I thought it was unnecessary for Ginny to bring that up. She’s so ignorant towards others and so selfish. But, hunter was completely in the wrong for using those stereotypes against her. Hunters character really saved me there because oh my lord Ginny was such a lovable character at first but her using the justification of racism makes no sense to me. I hope Ginny goes through a redemption arc or smth because she needs to recognize the circumstances she’s in 😕
TLDR; I don’t believe Ginny should’ve brought up the fact that “hunter is more white” than her to justify her not winning a assignment that she didn’t follow the rules for🤷♀️
2. The way it was executed
I didn’t really expect much from a teen cantered drama (especially because it was written by a millennial) but oh my gosh there was so much second hand embarrassment. I don’t mind it as much as Ginny and it makes the whole show just a lil bit more fun
