I dislike detective series, so am not the best judge, I was looking for books like Gone Girl, so detective genre should not be billed all over the Internet as psychological suspense to make it sell faster, sorry.

A good story on an important issue.

I am biased in favor of this author, as I like 2 things in fiction, one a good plot, that has forward momentum, which even hack commercial writers work hard at, and just a good, likeable, readable prose, that works on any page, and she has both. Like Ruth Ware, enjoy this.

The massive success of her first book, which I loved, and thought very well plotted, influences us not to see how boring this book is. The witchy stuff is marketing, as most nasty people are not that suicidal. There are several plot threads, a murky mess, and the ending is just negative. I truly felt my time had been very wasted, and am put off my love of psychological thrillers as the phrase is being used to sell, sell, sell.
