Why has this film rated so well???I went in with high expectations, and left really disappointed. To me it was trying to be arty for the same of being arty. I felt no connection to the characters or the donkey. I found it a very strange movie void of any emotion or depth. It showed emotional things but because there was no character development I just couldn’t get invested in it. As a comparison in story line I think of the original Lassie Come Home movie…the two are chalk and cheese. The girl who befriended EO, they needed to build their relationship a little more beyond her just cuddling his head a few times and him having a fake tear (donkeys can’t cry). I think I might have believed it a bit more if the girl had actually been a girl and not an adult. Anyway I just didn’t connect with it on any level. A lot of it seemed pointless, beautifully shot, but pointless
