Ok, first off, I am not racist, OR sexist. I just like originality, and historically correct movies. Even though it wasn’t historically correct being that bi-racial couples weren’t as easily accepted as they are today, the fact that darling was African-American was ok. What I absolutely hated was the fact that they switched Jock’s gender. I get it, they’re trying to make it more diverse, BUT THE MAIN CHARACTER IS ALREADY A FEMALE. Between that, and the fact that their baby was also a girl, I thought almost everything about this movie was forced because of the way our country is today, and it was just embarrassing compared to the amazing original movie. Obviously they cut out the Siamese cat scene since that was blatantly racist, and I can kind of understand why they took out the Russian dog and the Chihuahua because of their exaggerated accents, but the whole jock being a girl thing got me pissed beyond belief. Not every movie needs an exact equal amount of male and female characters, especially when the main character is female. I think there should be a good amount of both genders displayed in the movie, but just because there are more male than female characters, that doesn’t mean you have to change the gender of one of the main characters. Yes, our history was less diverse, but there’s no need to try and forget about it and change what happened. The current time isn’t like that anymore, nowadays we are much more diverse and accepting. If they were going to change so much about the movie, they should’ve just made a new movie. The Siamese cats scene was obviously racist, but not having a lot of female characters is not sexist. They need to either make the movie exactly the way it was without the blatant racism, or don’t remake the movie at all.
