The protagonist in this story is Adeline Yen Mah, Adeline is a young girl her life at home was not pleasant because she is described as bad luck for causing her mothers death this leads her to be unwanted in her family. The Antagonist of this story is Niang, Niang is Father's second wife and Adeline's abusive stepmother. Niang is half french and half Chinese she favours all the children besides Adeline.
