I am not sure how to describe how much this show resonates with me as a fan of both the original series and the later series. It somehow combines what I liked out of every Star Trek series. It just 'works'.
The show doesn't have any nihilistic negativity, it allows itself to be a lot funner, funnier, a lot more charming. Space, exploration, the future, are allowed to seem 'good' again, and I love that about this show. Maybe that is the thing that ties it to the original series the most. I think TNG and Picard tried to be a tiny bit too serious. I love both those series, but I love Strange New Worlds even more (yes even only 6 episodes in, I hope its a long romance and does not sour).
The CGI is now on par with anything being produced these days in movies or streaming series. Its on par with the CGI in Obi Wan and Mandalorian. Lightyears better than any other Star Trek series. It feels like the most immersive and believable Star Trek universe yet created.
