I was really disappointed with this one. Making it a musical... okay, why not, a creative challenge... but in the end, it was just too long and I kept wondering when the story would begin. It wants to just delve into the relationship between Joker and Harley, but all we really get a sense of is his twisted psychology, which we know already.
Harley remains a rather two dimensional character we never get a glimpse into. If it had explored her psychology, helping to get a picture of how she could be in love with this man... what formed her internal world, and how?
It just never happened.
I found myself waiting for them to start wreaking havoc on the world together, perhaps while dancing and singing their Frank Sinatra songs? But looking at the time, I eventually realized it wasn't going to happen. I won't be a total spoiler, but the ending was just the biggest let down. The last half an hour I found myself watching the minutes, and groaning, "not another song! "
I really wanted to like this and looked forward to it. Perhaps there is a project for a follow up, which explores Harley more and she becomes Batman's arch enemy instead, but this was so bad, I might not take the risk of watching it, if so.
