I picked this book while on holiday, aiming at a “light” read. Although I managed to finish it, I wasn’t very much impressed by the plot or the language used and certainly put off by several grammatical errors that should have been picked up before publishing. Somehow, I wasn’t gripped by a feeling of excitement and felt that the characters, especially the main character and narrator - Kate, wasn’t fully or deeply depicted or captured. I wasn’t able to wholly understand or identify with her. It seemed to me that the descriptions were quite superficial, but then again, it might be the cultural difference of Brits and south-Mediterraneans. At least I now know that I won’t be getting another book from the same writer - even as a “light” read.
