I was very excited when I got to the theatre to see the latest addition to Wes Anderson's film catalog, but was ultimately disappointed. The casting and cinematography was brilliant as a par for usual, but the flow of the picture was awkward and hitchy. Dialogue was too punctual and inference was all there was to string together the overlying themes to which there was no order...it seemed as though bits of the film were missing. It was a rewind back to bottle rocket, Wes' first movie. Despite the infusion of millions more dollars and the advent of quality cast the film was not that good. Dazzling scene placement and an all-star cast couldn't save the short comings of the writing. The premise dragged and the crux and resolve was lackluster in delivery. The cheesiness of the backdrops were warmly reminiscent of fifties scifi pictures and was a welcome change from the Cgi backdrops of the now, however with the lack of punch from the dialogue droning on and on it all just seemed camp in the end despite the effort.
