I was intrigued by Part 1, horrified by part 2, about the Brits desperate withdrawal from France during WW2, interested at Briony’s attempt at atonement by becoming a war nurse in Part 3, then totally confused by the Epilogue. The “atonement” was only in Briony’s delusional imagination? Robbie and Cecilia were killed in separate wartime tragedies and never reunited? All this left me sad and disappointed.
In reading another review I see there were subtle hints that I missed that the account of the atonement was Briony’s fictional narrative. 🤷♂️
