I disagree with the one who said Aishwarya appeared artificial in devdas that also due to makeup?๐ค Canโt really agree. I don't think shouting & crying is just example of good acting. Shah Rukhโs character shouted alot in the film and Madhuriโs character cried alot. Madhuri is good with her expressions in dance but when has she got acclaimed as the best actress? I canโt really think people have appreciated her acting skills, its always her dance which is the talk of the town.
If you are a non bollywood fan its absolutely dramatic film for you which you might like mainly because of the extravaganza sets, costumes and dance. You might or not might like it. Its a theatre drama play. If you like Anna Hathaway films like me you might like Devdas 2002 as well.
I'm a fellow bollywood fan and an Indian myself, I wonโt say each of them played their characters to perfection but they certainly were dedicated and worked hard which was visible. The only character who was the saving grace and to an some extent made sense to me was Parvati (portrayed by Rai) She was the strongest and better among others in my opinion as an actress despite having less experience than the other two. The scene where she stood for her self respect and those expressions are pure goosebumps and her chemistry with Shah Rukh was also chefโs kiss. I prefer Shah Rukh with Madhuri more but Devdas changed my view since.
Shah Rukh overacted but it was the demand. Madhuri felt like Madhuri who just felt nothing like her character. Aishwarya did good as the character demanded. I mean criticism is fine but those who said Aish was the dull one while having Madhuri is ironic. Aishwarya has done variety roles and had critical acclaim while Madhuri never had it. Just because Aishwarya was less experienced doesnโt make her artificial or bad, if you say that its blant lie honestly.
4 stars as Bhansali and Aishwaryaโs duo really didnโt disappointed me. Also Aish won the award as the best actress for a reason tho for the film.
