If you know Jay and Silent Bob, then you know what you are getting into with this movie. I have been a fan of Kevin Smith since Clerks and loved how he works his movies into a single universe. Reboot is no different. There are cameos from Comic Book Men, Mall Rats, and even Zak and Miri, which has been retconned into the View Askewniverse.
We get to see Jay go on a journey and character arc that is not typical of his character, which adds to the overall story and makes it a little more than the raunchy humor you know to expect from the movie.
Kevin has always been good at writing a message into his humor and this movie does a good job of it here. It is not as strong as my favorite of his movies, Chasing Amy, but it does a great job of telling a story with a "how to connect with family", "becoming a father" etc type message.
My favorite part of the movie is where we get to see how the cast of Chasing Amy has changed and grown over the past 20 years and get to see Holden come full circle and give his own "Chasing Amy" story back to the duo of Jay and Bob to drive their story arc just like they did for him so many years ago.
Overall this is a thumbs up from me. I loved the move and appreciate the way Kevin has crafted a love-letter to his fans with small "did you catch it?" moments throughout the movie that even long-time fans will miss on a first viewing.
