To be honest, I actually didn't like this movie.
Not because I thought it was bad, far from it. I actually consider this movie to be very well done in it of itself.
However, I tend to critique movies not based on what they are, but how they make me feel.
Personally, the loud and over the top singing and dancing from the cast of kids especially came off as very overwhelming and discomforting to me. And the fact that there seemed to be dozens of kids on screen doing these loud songs and dances didn't help either.
Although I acknowledge they were all doing a great job on camera, the way it was all presented was visually and emotionally overwhelming to my senses, and it started to generate intrusive thoughts in my head that made me feel upset. There's just something I find very off putting about big, over the top, musical numbers like the ones in Matilda the Musical that makes me really dislike them, even if everything about them is done right.
I know there is a large crowd for this movie, and rightfully so, but although Matilda the Musical is a great movie, it made me feel uncomfortable and overwhelmed on a deep, personal level.
And for that reason, I didn't like Matilda the Musical at all.
