As quoted by Corgan himself, this is basically a ripoff of my bloody valentine and there debut album isn't anything. However, you do have to start somewhere. Although this band sounds a lot like their predecessors that inspired them, The Smashing Pumpkins have a distinct sound in the alternative rock world. Jimmy Chamberlin has some incredible drumming, the distorted guitars from Billy Corgan and James Iha hit you like a wall of sound, and D'Arcy Wretzky's bass sounds very punchy. My favorites from the album would be I Am One, Rhinoceros, Bury Me, Crush, Suffer, Tristessa, Window Paine, and Daydream (with the hidden track I'm Going Crazy). Well produced album. In my top 5 debut albums.

This is The Smashing Pumpkins' most shoegazy record. The wall of distorted guitars sounds a lot like the shoegaze genre. As YouTuber Jacob Givens described this record, it literally sounds like caramel seeping out of your speakers or headphones. It is a nice classic and I used to rank this album at the bottom of all The Smashing Pumpkins albums, but it is ranked higher now since I have seen the beauty of this album. My favorites from the album would be Cherub Rock, Today, Rocket, Disarm, Mayonaise, Space Boy, Sweet Sweet, and Luna. I also like the other tracks. The album has a whole is amazing. The only real filler in my opinion, if there is any, is Soma, but even then, that song goes hard. It's all killer.

Before I discovered my bloody valentine's loveless, this album was my favorite album in the world. My favorite things about this album is how the mood of the album conveys a wide range of emotions and how it spontaneously jumps back and forth. Most albums usually focus on one central theme, but this album does a great job of being chaotic while also sticking together to match a broader concept of living life as a teenager. Listening to this album makes 2 hours feel like a split second and it is easy to get lost in. Every song on the album is killer. This album would not be if it had one song less. If I had to pick favorite songs, I would say Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness (my favorite piano piece ever at this moment), Tonight, Tonight, Bullet With Butterfly Wings, To Forgive, Love, Cupid De Locke, Galapagos, Muzzle, Porcelina Of The Vast Oceans, Take Me Down, Bodies, Thirty-Three, In The Arms Of Sleep, 1979, Thru The Eyes Of Ruby, Stumbleine, We Only Come Out At Night, Beautiful, Lily (My One And Only), By Starlight, and Farewell And Goodnight. My absolute favorite is Thirty-Three. That becomes a climatic part of the album and no other point in the album besides the beginning, 1979, and the ending hits as hard as that song does. I discovered this album for the first time on October 11th, 2022 and have been blown away since. The best double CD and Cassette, triple (or quadruple) LP to ever exist and it still hasn't turned 30 yet from the time of writing this review. That's saying something.

What an underrated band. A mix of Grunge, Alternative, and Metal are present in this album. I can not believe that I have not discovered them sooner. I dig it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A great album to come out of the 90s. I love the idea that the guitars sound like they have a mix of shoegaze and alternative styles. The bass on this record sounds nice and "crunchy." Especially during the song Cannonball.

My favorite album in the world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Would give it infinite stars. loveless is by far the Magnus opus of music. It says everything in 48 minutes in what it takes The Smashing Pumpkins to say in 2 hours with their album Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness. Every song on this album is killer. My personal favorites would be to here knows when, when you sleep, i only said, blown a wish, what you want, and soon. My top 2 are i only said and soon. The soundscape on this album is very dynamic. The recording quality might not be the best, but the soundstage is and there is not another recording that I have heard like it. The tremeloes, glides, and wahs from the guitars; the faint but emphasized whisper of the bass; the percussive sounds of the drums make this album stellar, amazing, and unique. The fact that the vocals are hard to distinguish also makes it better because it creates a love for the album that cannot be understood on a conscious level. Has been in my Walkman once every day for the last couple of months. I heard this album for the first time on November 3rd, 2023 (2 days before the 32nd anniversary) and have been blown away since. My love for music had grown drastically after that.

Not dissing on the concept of the album itself. That, I enjoy. However, 6 and a half hours of nothing but samples of music. There wasn't any narration with it. Music is not the same unless the artist is also contributing their own creativity in a way in my honest opinion. But again, the concept is amazing and it hits right on. Also, really freaky and tough to push through after getting through the first hour and a half. The other 5 hours seem like 5 years or decades washing away.

The only other album (so far) that has matched the level of my bloody valentine's loveless. The soundscape, the idea of having feelings you never felt before, and the way that the band can integrate emotion into the music is amazing and beautiful. My favorite song is Songs Of Farewell And Departure on this one. Little Dipper, Stars, The Old Man, I'd Like Your Hair Long, and I Hate It Too are other songs that are great. Essentially, every song on the album is awesome. Along with my bloody valentine's loveless, Hum's You'd Prefer An Astronaut will be in my Walkman at least once every day for a while.
