This is much more than a romance novel. It is truly a historical novel that focuses on the bravery of a few women who charted unforgiving terrain as well as the forces who wished to keep Appalachian women at the mercy of men. All their efforts focused on providing books to the women, men and children of the isolated mountains. These women were the trailblazers of bringing literacy for all in the Kentucky Appalachians.
