I could not even get through this mundane, clichéd and trite novel that has characters who are flat, stupid and almost impossible to care about. The endless plot cliches are infuriating. And when he tells the story of a maid who has to travel two hours from Newark, NJ to Manhattan it was all I could do not to hurl my kindle against the wall. I’m a Jersey girl. The bus and train from Newark take no more than 30 minutes to get to Manhattan. It is a dishonest and lazy way to try to make a character sympathetic and it does not work. I expect more from Wally Lamb and wonder if he actually really wrote this novel or paid some hack to do it. Save your time and money. Don’t buy it.
