This movie clashes unpleasantly with the spirit of Christmas. It establishes Santa's origin story as a means by which a wealthy king can appease his citizens with a few toys each year instead of providing them a living wage and healthcare (these needs are stated explicitly). And we have a major character who should have been one of the good guys but who colludes in not only kidnapping a child but keeping that child in a cage in the snow. He could not even stand upright. The sidekick animal was cute but didn't add the warmth that this movie so desperately needs. Most of the movie is a series of difficult and awful events, with very little pleasure for our main character (or anyone, really, until then end). The boy called Christmas is himself very worthy, but that alone doesn't turn this feel-bad movie into one that I will watch again.
