Cyberpunk 2077 is a lackluster experience that does not even rival GTAv, an 8 year old game. Cp77 was taunted as an ultra real experience full of cutting edge tech portrayed in an Edgy future setting. The Truth is that CD Project red did not deliver what they promised. I played on an above average PC and even with all the bells and whistles ultra 4k with ray tracing on 45 - 50 fps, this game is on par with things seen in games that actually do it better. I could go on about the bugs, glitches, and poor optimization, but I would rather stick to the decisions and story.
To start the Story is not well written. You start off your journey not knowing Jackie Wells, and through one mission you decide to become friends. A time jump later and this guy will die for you. No character building at all. I actually blinked and thought that I missed something and went back to play it again to make sure that the gap I experienced is really the story.
You feel a pressure with so much hitting you all at one time, and none of it is explained at all. I am fully versed in Cyberpunk lore, and I didn't even understand what was going on. You have so many side missions calling you all at one time, and really most of them when you get there are really just clearing out the same old gang here and there for people. nothing really special and quite repetitive. the pressure to move to the mission is so much you simply do not want to do the side missions.
After the main mission, you get the bonus of having an alter ego in your mind. Johnny Silver hand. Johnny is an annoyance, and not pleasant. he always makes you glitch and fall down with blood running from your nose. It becomes grindy and un fun to deal with. you become hell bent on getting Johnny out of your head, thus again skipping forward with pressure that "Time is running out" and you miss so much just wishing this part is over, only to find out that getting him out is really the end of you too and its really over.
In closing, Cyberpunk 2077 was promised to be so much, and in reality left me holding the bag. I still do not agree with so many decisions made in this game. Locked 1st person as explained with it is so immersive and yet it looks like ever other 1st person game ever made, head bob, hands on screen, the farthest thing from cutting edge. I honestly feel like CD Project red took an amazing game in development for 7 or 8 years and threw it on the table and basically gave up on the cutting edge and delivered a horrible and half thought out game that really did not live up to the expectations people have for CDPR.
