Great film. A wonderful tribute to history and the struggle for women to have sovereignty over their own reproductive systems.. The scene where 6 men talk about her and make the decision for her, with her in the room, as if she wasn’t even there was so spot on. All the things were touched on - from Black women’s systemic issues to economic issues to not judging women who take abortion lightly etc.
A well scripted film that touches on all the valid and accurate points of women's reproductive rights and empowerment.
It’s a shame that the reality of this film. Based in the 1960’s is a reality today.
This is what ya’ll want?!
I actually came here because the minute I saw the staircase scene I was enticed to find the opinions. Because I was sure there were many pro-choicers on here trying to make a religious or political statement because they were triggered by a movie about true history and women claiming sovereignty over their bodies instead of learning something.
Some ponderings:
For the women who want to say this movie is about killing unborn babies and chalk it up to your religious beliefs …
I hope you realize one day that you are a Godly being in your own right, and I sincerely hope that you - sooner then later- for the sake of women everywhere- are strong and wise enough to stand in your own power and know that you are not held in oath under the strict oppressive law of a masculine God head.
That you are a something like …. An Angel
perhaps -who can walk beside said God.
As you say - you are “made in his image”. Therefore you are of him too? Are you not?
Does this not make you godlike yourself?
And even if there is such a God - by your own teachings - He would definitely want you to have the sovereignty (by your own definition based on who you tell us he is) to decide if you want to bring life or not through your heavenly body.
He did give us choice. Did he not?
So if we are to act in his image - then shouldn’t we all be granted choice by his followers. As an act of Godly compassion. As Jesus and God himself would do and did do themselves?
If there is a heaven. Why not keep the unborn children there? Where they can be in his presence? Rather than this world you despise so much that you stand in your own way in the hopes that this God will allow you into his kingdom?
You may think I sound callous. Even “evil”. But I assure you, I am not. I have compassion and love and a heart.
Besides. Babies turn into grown Men and Women. And unless they fit into your cherry picked mold - you deem them unworthy once they are out of childhood and become adults. Abandoning them if they do not align with your personal beliefs and literally taking away their rights once they are of age to reproduce , unless they believe exactly as you do.
So why give life? Just to take away their choices and freedoms when they are grown? Simply because they do not agree with you?
But. I digress.
Seriously. Great film! Watch it!
Ps. To the woman who said “50%” of the unborn are females. That is not how it works. Statistics differ based on outcome. I’m just being nit~picky now. But, dang the obvious lack of general education is a glaring factor in the divide.
* If you have never had to make the choice get an abortion. Sit down.
* If you HAVE had an abortion and are against it. Respect.
SEPERATION of CHURCH and STATE is a very very important and crucial thing to uphold.
Do ya’ll not know WHY the United States was conceived (pun intended) in the first place?
