A thoroughly delightful and deliciously frivolous film.
This is a wonderful feel good movie that is mercifully devoid of any tiresome pretense of being an historically accurate drama about the court of Louis XVI.
The cinematography beautifully captures the essence of every sweet confection and blade of grass and intoxicates the viewers senses.
If you want a ponderous historical analysis and depressing psychological examination of the cruel injustices and excesses of the Bourbon dynasty and it's downfall, then look elsewhere or better still, read a book.
But if you occasionally want (or need) a bit of exquisitely gilded escapism, then this film is for you.
