First off...I'm an Aronofsky fan...usually. However, I'm extremely surprised that so many big named stars signed on to this ridiculous allegorical commentary on man's treatment of the Earth, relationship to God, or some form of combination of the two. A magazine article would've sufficed for Aronofsky to have shared his views instead of this painful to watch film in which none of the characters act as normal people do (and I know, they're not really supposed to)...and since they don't, the act of sitting through such a film becomes aggravating. I found myself shouting at the writing of the movie, excusing the actors for their parts, all of whom I respect, like, and admire from most of their other works. I even had to pause the movie with more than an hour left to express my displeasure here, I was so moved.
While I applaud Aronofsky's attempt at messaging, the movie does nothing to motivate grass root involvement or the like, or cause me to rethink or increase my recycling habits. That's not what I watch movies for. If you need a movie like this to urge participation in saving the planet then you're already behind the curve so maybe this one will be good for you. Happy to see Kristen Wig in anything though, btw...
