Law and Order season 1 through 20 is my favorite tv show. Law and order season 21 is a stain on the legacy of this great show. The greatness of the original is that it felt real. The politics written into the show felt organic and representative of real people in the real world. The politics in season 21 sounds like hot take one liners from cable news scream fests. Example: In the original the ongoing struggle of Van Buren, a black female, with the city and brass. When it was brought up, it felt like real people discussing the situation. Even with it being told almost exclusively from Van Burens point of view it did not sound like you were listening to cnn or fox news talking points from "both sides". IT sounded like if I were talking about it with my friends or coworkers. At best the new season does a poor job of occasionally shoe-horning in an attempt at "both sides". But it sounds downright stupid when they do. It's like they took twitter conversations, slapped them together, and called it a script. I am disappointed. I struggled through the first few episodes hoping it would get better but I turned off the last episode before it even ended because of how bad it was. I'm sad about this. I freaking love law and order.
