Pretty accurate depiction of the rough and tumble life in the late 1970s and early 1980s in the Anchorage area. The city definitely had a reputation back then as the Wild West. Money flowed through the city any time the pipeline workers had a much needed break from their North Slope work. Sad, but not surprising, this is based on a true story. Glad they caught this guy. Good movie with the right amount of pacing to show how urgently this serial killer needed to be stopped. He got away with so much criminality for so long.

This was a very solid drama which kept my interest throughout the whole running time of the movie. There is a lot going on in the movie which is peeled away like an onion throughout the runtime of the movie. There seems to be a lot going on in Joe's world, on the surface and in Joe's mind. It really kept me on my toes, despite the fact that the entire movie takes place in two rooms of the LAPD Communications Center. The actor who portrays Joe, Jake Gyllenhaal, portrays the demoted police officer staffing the Communication Center overnight. I really like the subtlety and nuance of this drama. It reminds me of the excellent radio dramas back in the 40s and 50s which allowed the listener's imagination to run wild trying to figure out what the story is going to bring up next.

Nice drama that does not give the plot away. Taut drama for sure, but so sad that this is based off of true circumstances because of how this Native Community is so poorly served by law enforcement.

This movie has many different facets to it. Parts of it are like a love story, parts are like a horror movie, and parts are a story about redemption for many of the characters involved. I really like how the flashback scenes paint the picture as to why the manuscript is so powerful to Amy Adam's character in the present time frame of the movie. Her character's past and the author of The Manuscript's past has to be touched on to show why the manuscript is so powerful to Amy Adam's character. The story in the manuscript is very gritty and violent, but it is used as a vehicle to show how the author of The Manuscript has grown as a creative force during the course of the movie run time.
