Yes, it is an elegantly written murder mystery with a convincing London feel (even though the author is American). The plot is intriguing and the characters well drawn and convincing, but...it did not need to be 1,000 pages long! Judicious editing could have pared it down by half without sacrificing anything.

Inherited this tiny volume from my maternal grandfather who died over 50 years ago. Chic Sale was a Vaudeville performer, now largely forgotten, but so popular in his day he was frequently referenced by the Marx Brothers. It is a very quick read and provides an amusing glimpse of rural 1920s America.
