The Good: The narrator nails Pacino. At times, it’s freakishly similar. Well done, sir. Chris is shown to evolve-yet-struggle, which is interesting. He’s flawed, which is good. The Charlene subplot isn’t believable until the end – comes several years too late. Connecting the major character arcs was a fun ride. The regional vibes come through in LA, Mexico, and Chicago.
The Bad: Chris’s 4-year secret relationship with Anna having no evolution? That would have led to major changes in both characters. The Chen and Liu characters are underdeveloped. Hard to care about any of them. Cartoonish villains. Mismatches between character statements in the first Heat and the narrative here.
Verdict: The Heat 2 movie will upset the die-hard Gen-X fans, but it should be a fun ride for Millennials who don’t know the deal. More Trejo next time!
