WTP: Blood and Honey 2 is a massive upgrade from the first Blood and Honey film. It offers a new and fascinating backstory, interesting new characters such as Tigger (Lewis Santer), Owl (Marcus Massey), Piglet (Eddie MacKenzie) and a surprisingly satisfying star turn from writer/producer Scott Chambers as the enigmatic Christopher Robin.
It’s larger budget (ten times larger than the original film) has allowed for a raft of improvements in every area - actors, character design, production design, and script. Speaking of the script, Matt Leslie’s screenplay provides a deep dive into the creature’s origins in very satisfying fashion.
It's obviously a horror franchise, but one that both looks and sounds great - with special thanks to composer Andrew Scott Bell, who’s touching and powerful score is a wonderful addition to the film’s presentation. Vince Knight’s excellent cinematography continues to impress, and the new creature designs from Shaune Harrison (World War Z, Game of Thrones, Harry Potter) and Paula Anne Booker’s special effect work also shines.
I loved Roger Corman’s films, and I love Director Rhys Frake-Waterfield and Producer/Actor Scott Chambers latest offering in the same way. Genius within the genre and no lie.
The teasers for Bambi, Pinocchio, Peter Pan, and the entire “Poohniverse” were also fantastic attention getters that generated great excitement in the theater.
If you love the genre and want to both laugh and be scared this is a terrific film to watch and enjoy. Highly recommended.
