Definitely the farewell movie of a lifetime, Mission Impossible: Final Reckoning lives up to its title. I left the IMAX theater in awe at Tom's unfettering performance once again. It's obvious he loves making these films, has said in interviews that his goals has always been to make his films as entertaining as he possibly could for his audiences. He wants people to see his movies in theaters, and if you choose the home option, to turn down the frames per seconds (FPS) setting in your TVs to accentuate the action and movement. He truly understands the film medium and its potential to excite.
As for the film cast itself, this is quite the event fir everyone involved. The stunning Grace, played by Hayley Atwell, is back, makes for a nice welcome to Tom's more unplanned approach to things. We get Luther, Benji, and Paris again adding every bit of importance to the team in helping Ethan. Angela Bassett is a warm welcome as the US President and does a perfect job as a leader. And the villainous Gabriel is back to steal the troublemaking artificial intelligence program called The Entity from the last film and have it work for him yet again.
The movie can make anyone feel a little flustered upon the retelling and revisiting Ethan's past missions, then having to throw in legitimate villains and sense of danger from the Entity, it's a bit of a lot if you're not very familiar with Tom's M.I. movies. Fortunately, just like all the others, everything starts to make sense as the movie goes on. The action scenes here are very cool especially the submarine and airplane scenes. And yes, being the classic, and absolutely nuts, Tom Cruise, he did most of those scenes all by himself.
I highly recommend watching this in either Dolby or IMAX. You just can't beat the extreme detail you get in those theaters, the dark scenes are easily distinguishable, and the sound is loud and immersive. You will leave this film just happy and in awe at the insurmountable storytelling and action scenes here. My score: 9.5/10
