This novel will deceive you. You will have to pause many times as you travel from chapter to chapter to remind yourself that you're reading a novel. The characters seem all too real, not larger than life, but caught up in personal and social tidal forces that ultimately overwhelm them.
Gresham creates vivid, detailed scenarios and then lures you in to them. At the epilogue you will be exhausted but grateful for a superb ending. My only hope is that Gresham does not sell this book to Hollywood. They'd just ruin it.
