I was so excited when I first saw the announcement for this show back in 2020. After getting to see The Clone Wars come back for its final season I thought surely my other favorite media of all time could get a second lease on life as well and weโd finally have a true adaptation for this legendary books series and I could just think of those movies as a bad dream. Rick Riordan was my hero in terms of authors and he showed an astute mastery in his books to make compelling characters, a gripping story and a heartfelt narrative. Whatever talent he had with that is not translating at all hereโฆ I honestly feel lied to.
It honestly doesnโt even feel like the people behind making this even like the fans who love Percy Jackson. Events are mismatched and details are glossed over or delivered too early, while adding in details that never previously existed forโฆ what reason exactly? The characters not only donโt look like how theyโve been described in the books but donโt even feel or act like them. This is the second time theyโve done that on screen for a live action adaptation btw. Was production trying to pull a fast one and think we wouldnโt notice that these characters are acting completely differently from their book counterparts? As for the story, they just seem to have beef with the one in the books because they barely handle it with careโฆ
I never thought Iโd say this but steer clear. Donโt give this show your time. If Rick, Disney, and the production donโt want to make good on their 4 YEAR PROMISE (ffs) to make a faithful screen adaptation of Percy Jackson, donโt give them the views or your time because if you ARE a fan of these books, you deserve better. Saying all of this hurts me because Iโm a massive Percy Jackson fan and hating this show doesnโt bring me joy.
