As a huge fan of international tv series and movies, and a viewer who's probably watched Doc Martin thru three times, this Aussie series is a new favorite for me. On the American side, it reminded me of a much older favorite, Northern Exposure. The characters are well defined as real people are, the love relationships & friendships complex, mimicking everyday life and the setting, a small rural town, becomes as endearing as our hometowns often are. The characters are quirky, fun, eccentric, funny, tragic and even in those moments when we may think they're idiots, we can put ourselves in their shoes, accept their flaws & foibles. Family & community loyalty outshine politics they sometimes compete with and the 'little people' manage to 'beat the system'. All in all, a beautiful example of our human condition.
