Till a long time one wonders why the movie is called Shershah ....or atleast I did wonder.
Shershah is the code name of
Capt. Vikram Batra, a Kargil war hero, who died fighting for his country.
But that's not all. Here is a flesh and blood character based on the life of the young Captain, who was a quintessential boy next door but with one mission. To join the army.
There is a very telling scene with a young Vikram fighting for his ball back from bullies twice his age , yelling constantly
" What is mine ,cannot be taken away from me''
The ball is obviously a metaphor for Kashmir.
Capt Batra was a good natured, jovial, caring , filmy guy but hugely devoted to the Indian army. It his through him that we watch a part of the Kargil war and how tough it was.
Siddharth Malhotra is brilliant and definitely gives it all he has got and 'ye dil maange more'.
He is talented and has proved it earlier in Kapoor & Sons. He portrays the titular role with a mix of normalcy and heroism, not to mention the corny filmy one liners he quips.
Kiara Advani as his love interest Dimple Cheema is a beautiful, strong willed girl.
The rest of the cast is good . Special mention for Shiv Pandit who is his friend in his regiment. He is awesome.
It's not your run of the mill movie. No jingoism. Just as close to the reality of war.
A movie about undaunted valour, bravery and above all gratitude to the Indian Army.
I think it's unfair to rank a biopic of a soldier who achieved so much in his 25 years. But since it's an enactment, I would unhesitatingly give it a 4.9
Just Respect for all the Army personnel posted at the border. #SaluteToOurHeroes
(No no for those who don't like war movies.)
