This show is absolutely beautiful, but I stopped watching after the second episode. I think you'll have better luck and appreciate the series more if you haven't read the Foundation books. It's just too hard to overcome the bias of those books being so meaningful.
I feel like I'm being fascinated by the wrong pole of the story. The clones of Cleon I, Dawn, Day and Dusk are far more interesting than the Foundation settlers. The Terminus story, which was always so central in the books, feels like a mess. The authoritarian rulers of the Empire have the easiest to follow plot, and provided the biggest connections.Seeing brother Dawn being trained to follow Day, the cracks of anger and violence and sorrow in Dusk, and the command of Day were the best parts. Their advisor is also fascinating and given her relationship to Dawn, it makes you wonder about her feelings and relationship to Day and Dusk.
I felt that I should have immediately connected with Gaal Dornick and the heart of the Foundaton/Terminus stories. However, it's so difficult to understand the motives of anyone going to Terminus and the ending of episode immediately disconnects the viewer from their Terminus point of contact. I really wanted to get to the first Seldon crisis, but given the massive changes from the book, I doubt I'd recognize it anyway.
