I must admit—the idea of an interracial lesbian vampire romance grabbed my attention. The chemistry between the two young women was really refreshing to see, especially if you’re into the classic Shakespearean tale. Its two main characters, Cal and Jules—are cute to watch on screen. The show overall is entertaining enough to watch in one sitting, but as you get to the halfway point of this 8-episode show, you’ll notice things start to get confusing and BAD. (Like a rejected CW special bad).
I think the main issue with this story was that the world inhabited by the characters just wasn’t fleshed out enough to make it believable. There are monster hunters, vampires, zombies, and ghouls, but no real establishment of the Lore of these creatures, and how they are meant to coexist with humans. There are many plot points and concepts that were introduced in earlier episodes that were not mentioned further, and it left major plot holes. A lot of concepts are introduced, and then never brought up again. This would have been better executed if they developed the world and characters more. Perhaps not have the girls find out the others’ identify until later on in the show. This is something to watch if you have free time, but otherwise, it’s like watching a Buffy/Teen Wolf spin-off. That’s the best way to describe the feel of the show. However, I doubt they can stretch this story enough to carry it into a second season that can perform well.
