I have a lot of issues with the film but I will say for the amount of content the book has, the film does manage to deliver a lot of what happens. I completely understand why some characters weren't able to be included, but it made for the film to be rather clunky and rushed at points.
I really wanted to love it but honestly felt it toned down or pulled back on characters' personalities, specifically Alex's. He felt much less funny or quick-witted and I felt that the film lacked a lot of Casey's charm that the book has. It took away a lot of Alex's vulnerability. He seemed a lot more sure of himself and cocky, far less real and open.
For an adaptation, it's not great. We lose a lot of what makes the book great and it kinda felt watered down in relation to the queerness that the book brings, with Nora and Percy being the ones that noticeably lacking in their own queer identities.
Overall, the film isn't the worst but not the best. I am still so happy this got made, but it lacks an authentic queerness that makes the book so well-loved and endearing. If you're just looking for a casual watch. 100% but it's not nearly as funny, raw, or interesting as the book, but I'd still give it a watch.
