i think like everyone else here, I'm a BIG movie fanatic and i must say for a modern day coming of age movie this really checked all my boxes. i am no where near someone who has a severe mental illness yet then still i found myself being represented by the main character. oddly enough i found myself relating to his home life, seeing him having to deal with those struggles of a stepfather and his moms pregnancy would be my worst childhood fear come true and i sympathize with that on a profound level as i could understand the isolating feeling he felt in that moment. seeing him come to terms with finally accepting his step father took a me a step back and made it even more heartfelt to me. not to mention his relationship with Taylor Russel made it even more comforting for me, heck i even found myself feeling most attracted to her in times throughput the movie being that shed be the perfect portrayal as a girlfriend for any adolescent male. I also appreciated how they represented God/Jesus and how Christians SHOULD be supportive of others. Definitely a movie for anyone who wants a better understanding, or anyone who likes the ‘coming of age’ genre in general. all in all over comforting and cozy watch and i commend the writers for incorporating the mental illness of schizophrenia as a unique niche to the plot and representing those with this illness in a humane light.
